Susan M. (Helvitz) Peluso, passed away in her home in Walpole, MA on April 13, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on November 7, 1944, in Boston, MA, Susan was the daughter of the late Francis and Alice (McManus) Helvitz and grew up surrounded by a loving family.
Susan's life was one of dedication and devotion, qualities that shone brightly in her roles as a wife, mother, nana, sister, and friend. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 38 years, James F. Peluso Sr., who passed away in 2008. Together, they built a family and a home. Susan's legacy lives on through her children, Sandra M. (Peluso) Thurston and her husband, Joseph Jr., and her son James F. Peluso Jr. and his wife Kristen (Berry) Peluso. Her three amazing grandchildren, James Francis Peluso III, Jonathan Joseph Peluso, and Juliana Marie Peluso, brought immense joy to her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Susan was predeceased by her sisters, Marianne (Helvitz) Buckley and Phyllis (Helvitz) Mitchell, and her sister-in-law Rosemarie (Peluso) Foley.
She is survived by her brothers Gerald Helvitz and his wife Linda, and Johnny Helvitz and his wife Laura, as well as her brother-in-law Donald Mitchell. Also, by many friends, family members, nieces, nephews' cousins and godchildren.
A proud graduate of St. Mary's High School in Brookline, Susan furthered her education at a secretarial school in Boston. She went on to work as a secretary at Watts Security in Boston until she embraced the role of a full-time mother. Susan's caring nature was evident in the years she spent as a caretaker for her husband, Jimmy demonstrating unwavering commitment and compassion.
Her hobbies included spending time with family and friends, taking vacations to York Beach Maine, playing cards, going to the casino, bowling with her bowling league, hosting parties and doing things with her grandchildren.
Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she could often be found cheering on her grandson Jonathan Joseph on the football field. She was eagerly looking forward to supporting Juliana in lacrosse and James III in his cello performances. Her presence at these events was a testament to her unwavering support and pride in her family's achievements.
Those who knew Susan will remember her as the epitome of loving, kind, and selfless. Her warmth and generosity touched the lives of many, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we say farewell to Susan M. Peluso, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the countless lives she enriched. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and her memory will be held dear in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
