Dorothy Schillig Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10:30AM at Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole.  Interment at St. Michael Cemetery.  Relatives and friends invited.

Dorothy L. (Lanata) Schillig, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on February 1, 2024. Born in Boston, MA, on May 9, 1927, Dorothy was a lifelong resident of the area, growing up in Mattapan and blessing all who knew her with her gentle spirit throughout her 96 years.

A graduate of Hyde Park High School, Dorothy's professional life was marked by her dedication and hard work. She began her career as an executive secretary at 3M, where she worked for approximately 14 years. Dorothy then took a hiatus from the workforce, dedicating 18 years to the full-time care of her family, a period she cherished deeply. Returning to her vocation with vigor, she served as a secretary at Hingham High School for over 15 years, where her warmth and professionalism left a lasting impression on her colleagues and the many students she encountered.

In 1950, Dorothy's heart found its match when she married John L. Schillig at St. Angela's Church in Mattapan. Their love story was one for the ages, spanning 68 years until John's passing in 2018. Together, they were the proud parents of Anne L. Krekis, with her husband Konstantine of Walpole, and Lisa Schillig of Palm Beach, Florida. Dorothy's legacy continues through her devoted daughters, as well as the many loving nieces, nephews, and friends who had the privilege of being part of her life.

Dorothy's interests were a reflection of her love for life and family. An exceptional baker, she delighted in preparing treats for her family and friends, and her dinners were legendary gatherings that brought together neighbors and loved ones in warmth and celebration. Dorothy and John shared a passion for travel, spending much of their retirement exploring the world. They held a special fondness for Italy, the Caribbean, and most of Europe, always returning home with stories and memories to share.

Those who knew Dorothy will remember her as the epitome of love, kindness, and gentleness. Her presence was a comfort, and her influence was a guiding light to all. Her ability to listen with empathy, speak with care, and touch hearts with her generosity made her a cherished figure in her community.

Dorothy's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of devotion, family, and friendship. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched. Her memory will be cherished, her lessons remembered, and her love felt forevermore.

As we reflect on the life of Dorothy L. Schillig, we are reminded of the profound impact one person can have on the world around them. She exemplified the best of us, and her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. Dorothy's journey through life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of family, and the beauty of friendship.

We celebrate Dorothy's life and the joy she brought to every moment. Though she may have left this world, her light remains, guiding us through the days ahead. Rest in peace, dear Dorothy. Your life was a gift, and we are all the better for having known you.
