Shirley R Bassiri

Shirley Ruth Bassiri, 78, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2020 with her husband, Rahim Bassiri, children Sheila Ahmed and David Bassiri and their spouses Rizal Ahmed and Karen Propp by her side.  Shirley was born on January 9, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri to Ottis and Chellis Cupples.  She met Rahim in 1968 at City Hospital in St. Louis where they both worked.  They married in 1971 and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where Sheila was born and Lebanon, Pennsylvania where David was born before settling down in Des Moines, Iowa where they shared their lives for over thirty years.  In 2005 Shirley and Rahim moved to Norfolk, Massachusetts to be closer to their children and grandchildren, Lindsay Ahmed, Tyler Ahmed, Joey Ahmed and Ryan Ahmed. 

Shirley was a dedicated wife and mother who put family first.  Whether she was shuttling the neighborhood kids around Des Moines, or spending months tending to her new-born grandchildren, Shirley was always there for the people she loved.  She gave without asking and loved nothing more than spending time connecting with others.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Alexander Thomas and Sons Funeral Home in Walpole, Massachusetts.  A viewing will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM and a short private service will follow at 11 AM.  The burial will take place after the services at Norfolk Cemetery in Norfolk, Massachusetts.
